CHARLOTTE, N.C. — After three ACL surgeries, a little broken arm is apparently nothing to Thomas Davis.

The star Panthers linebacker vowed to play in Super Bowl 50 in two weeks despite suffering a fractured right arm midway through the second quarter of Carolina’s 49-15 mauling of the Cardinals Sunday night in the NFC Championship Game.

“It hurt, and it was painful,” Davis said. “At the same time, I believe in our training staff and I believe in the process. If it is at all possible I know they are going to get me back and I will do my part to make sure I’m ready.”

Davis, who has managed to overcome three ACL injuries in his 10-year NFL career, is a crucial force in the Carolina defense. He ranked second on the Panthers in tackles and interceptions and third in sacks this season and already had six tackles in just 1 ¹/₂ quarters when he exited.

“It was kind of tough for him to not get an opportunity to come back in during the second half, but he told me he was going to be ready [for the Super Bowl],” Panthers coach Ron Rivera said. “We will see, but knowing him, I don’t doubt any word he says.

“If he says he’ll be ready, he’ll be ready.”
