Former US Olympian Dominic Breazeale can count himself lucky to still be undefeated after a sloppy performance against hardened veteran Amir Mansour.

Breazeale, 30, began the fight slowly and found it hard to find his feet as Mansour came out swinging from the first bell. Mansour dropped Breazeale hard in the third, but failed to capitalize as the younger man used experience beyond his years to tie-up and hold on.

In the fourth, Breazeale began to make his way back into the fight as Mansour tired from his fast-paced opening three rounds. Mansour’s tactics may well have been to get the early knockout, which in the end were to his detriment as Breazeale came more and more in the contest by the fifth.

As the six was about to begin, the fight was waved off by referee Raul Caiz Sr as Mansour was complaining in his corner and shaking his head that he could no longer continue. Ice was applied to Mansour’s jaw in the immediate aftermath whilst Breazeale’s celebration in his corner was as much relief as anything.

‘Trouble’ moves to 17-0 with a 15th stoppage from his three years as a pro but looks some way off world title level and needs a few more fights to behind him before he goes anywhere near the likes of Tyson Fury or Deontay Wilder.
